Almost every Filipino family sends stuff in those Balikbayan Boxes. But what stuff they put im there? Dog shit? Naw, stuff like non-perishable food items, canned goods, other food items, toiletries, household and kitchen stuffs, time saving devices, computer parts, electronics, toys, designer clothing, personal items, and hard to find items in the Philippines (wikipedia article)...and maybe a 23" high-defenition television, Playstation3, a pair of Air Jordans, provocative clothing Britney Spears wear, a bra worn by Anna Nicole Smith, a Michael Vick football jersey, some X-rated movies, steroids for cockfighting, and condoms for the Barrel Man.
Hard to find items? They don't sell NFL jersesys there? I am sure a whole bunch of clothing and other shit they put in there are really made by sweatshops in China. What the fuck? So the shit from 3,000 miles away are going back for another fucking 3,000 miles? And the Filipino-Americans coming to the Philippines have to carry that shit box in a plane? Don't the U.S. govermment ban those boxes after September 11? Why not ship it through UPS? And why not build sweatshop factories so that the people in the Philippines can work there and get the clothes for themselves and their family? They they do not rely on their families in America for their shit. How about putting a Wal-Mart over in the Phillipine Republic so the shit made from China can be directly shipped in the fucking stores? Then the Filipino-Americans do not have to worry about security issues when visiting their love ones.

ReplyDeletehi. i do not know you. but i pray for you and all the others who judge others. you missed the part in wikipedia that said: "for pasalubong" which means "gifts when we arrive". when they are sent, whatever it is there is simply "gift." you are right, many of those things in the box can also be found in philippines and asia. but we filipinos understand about something else which you don't. it is the spirit or intention behind the sending of those boxes that counts. when our loved ones send those boxes no matter how insignificant those things may be, it shows they love us, remember us, and care for us. many filipinos actually have never thought or even wanted to go to USA or even other countries. it is poverty for many that has forced them to go. the very reason why we don't is because of our love for our families and the close-knit ties that we have. so, when they leave, they still try to connect. yes, even through those "humbling" balik-bayan boxes.
