Debut: a waste of money

After I have watched the movie the Debut, I have done further resources about it. I even look through some videos on YouTube to see what a real life debut was like. Sure it is formal, but why celebrate in her 18th birthday? Why spend so much money for this event? In fact, after looking at some videos on You Tube, I find this party very out of my interest. I might show up for only 30 minutes there and say “Happy 18th Birthday Rose” then leave and go somewhere else. In one YouTube video clips, I saw the debuante singing karaoke, and in another clip, I see a group of guys dancing like wussies. Then the food there looks either fattening or outright groose. It is a good thing they do not have a balut, then I would puke. But after thinking about costs and stuff like that, a Debut is simply a waste of money, and with college, Senior Prom, and other events happening around the 18th birthday, it is a burden for that expense.

Some of the changes that Filipino families should consider:
 Debuts should be held in the daugter’s 16th birthday. Get that, sweet 16 when it is the driving age. It is her sophomore year in high school, so not much burden to consider.
 Parties can be held in the backyard. No need to rent a banquet room. Especially when it is between March to September, outdoors will be perfect to have a party. A barbeque will be the main entree for the party. Filipino foods can be fused with Ameircan influence.
 People can bring their own food. No need to have a cater come by and set up one.
 Party does not have to be too formal. The most formal event in her high school life must be the Senior Prom, therefore, make a Debut less significant than that.
 A cost for a typical Debut will cost $1000-$2000. With my ideas, it would only cost no more than $200. That would be a huge savings after all of these expenses you need to put up with.
